Lasted 3 years Nov 20, 2009 I have bought 3 of these - one because I lost a pair, 1 to replace the lost pair and one as a gift. After 3 years of non-stop heavy usage - 8 hours every day - my pair has finally died. The other one (gifted pair) is till going strong at 2 years. The sound is the best I've heard.
And at 20$ a pair for mediocre earphones which last barely 6 months - this high comfort high quality pair is the best.
sound good but be careful Nov 18, 2009 I have had these for about six months, once they are seated correctly the sound quality is phenomenal. Outside noise is isolated as good as it can be for an in-ear model, bass is clear and distinct, mids are there, highs aren't too bright
Be careful with how far in you put them. In order to get the best sound they need to go in FAR. The problem is if you have larger ear canals, and they go in too far, the rubber tip can become stuck in your ear canal. In my case the seal was too tight and when I removed the earbud by pulling on it (not the wire) the rubber tip was still lodged in my ear canal. I had to go to the hospital and have it removed by a specialist!
Very good isolation and accuary Nov 10, 2009 When I put these in my ears i'm in my own virtual world. I provides complete isolation from the outside world. Although not a headphone for the bass head, provides accuracy and clearity to details.
Great sound, just one eency-weency gripe Nov 09, 2009 I replaced another ER6i set with which I was very happy. Provided you can get a good seal with the provided ear-tips, these provide great, well-balanced sound with ample bass for all but the most fanatical head bangers. My ear canals seem to be smaller than most people's, but this set came with the smaller ear-tips - which I previously had to order separately from Etymotic - already installed with which I was quite pleased. I tried the Bose and Altec Lansing UHP336 Snugfit In-ear Earphone in-ear headphones, and I couldn't get a good seal with either of them unless I held my head absolutely still or held them in. Fortunately, in the case of the Bose the store had a 30 day return policy, as does Amazon with the Altec-Lansings so there is joy in Mudville.
The one complaint I have is that it is a little difficult to get these puppies OUT of your ears as there is not much left sticking out that you can grab on to. I pretty much have to use my fingernails to grab the ridge that runs around the part that does stick out to get them out. With the previous set, I was pulling them out by the cord (bad user!!) which eventually led to their demise as one side became disconnected. It would be nice if there were a small tab that you could pull on or if there were more surface area left sticking out to grab on to. If the Altec-Lansings will fit in your ear canals, they're a STEAL at $40, but failing that, I think the ER6is are unbeatable in their price range.
Tiny Wonders Nov 01, 2009 I initially thought these headphones to be quite disappointing until I realised that using them in the 'line out' was making them sound terrible.
After plugging them into the correct output on my MP3 player it made a world of difference.
A lot of people go on about the bass response on these being weak. Sure, it's not hefty and a little lacking -even once you work out how to insert them properly in your ear canal- but that's nothing a little EQ can't fix. So, once EQ'd the bass sounds quite nice. Solid and has real presence.
I produce my own music (mostly electronic) and have a pair of AKG K240's. The bass on these isn't quite as solid as the AKG's but the mid/upper range the ER6i's is quite 'open' and bright. So it makes listening to music more pleasurable than the 240's as I feel like i'm hearing a greater level of detail. I've been doing a little mixing on the ER6i's and then playing the mixes back on my stereo/car etc and been quite impressed by the mixes I get out of them.
I'm thoroughly happy with these little beauties. The feeling of having them deep in your ear canals feels a little invasive initially, but once you realise the perks of this (being able to use them as headphones while studying in a room full of TV watchers!) you'll appreciate this. I also quite enjoy walking through the city with them jammed in without the sound encroaching it's almost like making my own video clips.
